I. To establish the illustrative texts and to complete the bibliography of the study. The selection of the Romanian translations will be made considering the following criteria: a) the type of writing: printed texts and manuscripts which are clearly written / edited; b) the content of the texts: history and geography; c) the access to the source texts (only those texts will be selected for which we generally know the sources or we can easily establish them).
II. To build a representative corpus of proper names. This stage involves recording the proper names found in the selected texts. The proper names in Cyrillic letters will be filed according to an interpretative system of transliteration and transcription from the Cyrillic to the Latin alphabet. The files will also include the immediate context of the names in Romanian and in the source-text language. During this phase we also aim at digitizing and indexing the recorded information, in order to make them accessible by a series of criteria (lemma, onomastic subclass, morphological form, frequency, and derivates).
III. To develop an extensive study of the treatment of proper names in translation in the studied period. Depending on the recorded material, the study on the transfer of foreign proper names into Romanian will include information such as: 1) a brief presentation of the selected texts (with their sources); 2) the treatment of proper names in translation (a synthesis of the main directions in research); 3) translation techniques; 4) the treatment of proper names in translation from the perspective of the onomastic subclasses they belong to (anthroponyms, macro- and microtoponyms, astronyms, theonyms, zoonyms, etc.); 5) attempts and criteria of standardization of foreign proper names in translation, etc.
IV. To publish an extensive study (in print) with a glossary of proper names (CD).
